This week the Owls began this exploration of Flowers. Friends have decided that they were going to transform the Dramatic Play area into a Flower Shop. So during Morning Meeting, the Owls discussed what we could add to convert our Kitchen into a shop. The Owls came up with fantastic ideas such as flowers, baskets, pots, garden tools, and seeds! But most importantly, friends decided that our store was going to need a name! Here are some of the fantastic names that friends came up with!
- The Flower Brigade
- The Sunflower
- The Dandelion
- The Water Lily
- Water
- Lily
- The Parade of Roses
- The Daisy Bloom Store
- The Little Seed
- The Store Apron
- The Flower
- The Rain Flower
- The Hurricane Shop
The Owls came up with such great names that friends could not decide what they should call our store. So friends put their heads together and came up with two ideas that may help us. Some friends thought that we could put all the names in a hat and pick one out, while others thought that we could take a vote and count which name got the most votes! After a discussion, friends decided that we should take a vote, but not just any kind of vote, we should ask the entire school! So stay tuned to find out what the name of our flower shop will be!
The Owls wrapped up our Morning Meeting reading the book The Tiny Seed written by Eric Carle. While reading friends noticed the way that Eric Carle illustrated his pictures. Friends said that this was very different from the other books in our classroom. Friends pointed out that it looked like it took him a very long time to draw one picture because he used a lot of different types of art tools! Danielle and Samantha explained to The Owls that Eric Carle uses many different techniques and mediums, and then he collages them together to form a picture. The Owls found this to be interesting and wanted to give it a try, so we did just that! During Choice Time, friends worked on painting the back to their picture. Friends began by using water color to paint a vibrant sky.
After our sky was painted, friends explored a another art medium and not just any old one but a 3 & 4 year olds favorite, FINGER PAINTING! Friends used both their fingers and a paint scraper to paint and form luscious green grass! Next week the Owls will continue to develop their picture by exploring more types of mediums.
