MLK Service Day and Good Friends

This morning during assembly we watched a video that explained who Martin Luther King, Jr. was and what he did. The video was by Kid President. Afterwards the fourth grade took the stage to sing We Are One.

When the Owls got back to the classroom we had Morning Meeting. Jeanne came in for Math Workshop and brought some fourth graders with her. Jeanne explained the difference between a rhombus and square. We learned that a square has four corners or angles that are all the same, called right angles, and a rhombus has 2 angles that are big (or obtuse) and 2 angles that are small (or acute).

Next, with the the help of the fourth graders, we made squares and rhombi out of popsicle sticks.

During Choice Time, friends chose between magnatiles...

and drawing.

Also during Choice Time, friends made ziti to give to Face to Face. Friends really enjoyed the idea of making food to help others. We measured out the ingredients and then took turns pouring them into the bowl and mixing.

After making the ziti, friends went outside for Outdoor Play. When we came inside, the Owls, Catbirds, and Cardinals joined together for a community lunch. Friends chatted with one another over delicious bowls of pasta.

Friends thoroughly enjoyed one another's company, and coming together as a community to help others. This made all of the friends and teachers' hearts fill with joy.

Ask your Owl what they liked most about making the ziti for Face to Face,
